Apistogramma agassizii, also known as Agassiz's Dwarf Cichlid, is found in the Amazon River basin from Peru to the Capim River Basin. They inhabit clear, still or slow-moving, leaf-littered black and white water creeks in their geographic area  This is a very rare Brazilian color from. 

Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 74-84°F (23-29°C)

  • pH: 5.0-7.0

  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water, ideally 1-8 dGH

Tank Setup

  • Tank Size: Minimum of 15 gallons for a pair

  • Substrate: Fine sand or smooth gravel

  • Decor: Provide plenty of hiding spots using driftwood, rocks, and leaf litter. Live plants are also beneficial.

  • Filtration: Gentle filtration to mimic their natural slow-moving waters

Diet

  • Food: High-quality flake or pellet food, supplemented with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms.

Behavior & Compatibility

  • Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially during breeding.

  • Tank Mates: Other peaceful fish that thrive in similar water conditions. Avoid larger or aggressive species.

Breeding

  • Spawning: They are cave spawners, so provide small caves or crevices.

  • Care: Males can be aggressive towards females during breeding, so ensure there are plenty of hiding spots.
